Cornelius-Lemley Fire Rescue issued the following announcement on Mar. 11.

We would like to invite the public to join us in celebrating the careers of two of our longtime firefighters.  The celebration will be:

April 2nd, 2022 from 1pm-5pm at Cornelius Fire Station 1 (19729 S. Main Street)

Terry Mayhew joined in 1985 and served our department for 36.5 years. Terry has always been an extremely dedicated member both volunteer and an on a paid basis.  Cornelius has always been known for having aggressive firemen that would go above and beyond to ensure that the incident was handled quickly and professionally. Terry was one of the original Cornelius hard chargers at any fire scene in the northern end of Mecklenburg County – if it was burning you could guarantee he would be there and most likely finding his way to the nozzle.

Chance Osborne joined in 1993 and served our department for 28 years. Chance was also one of the firefighters that set Cornelius apart from all the other departments during his time here. Prior to paid members you could often find Chance at the Station manning the rigs at all times of the day. In fact, there were many times that calls might not have been answered if Chance wasn’t here. Chance was one of the first part-time paid firefighters in 2000 and was a solid, steady, dependable fireman for those 22 years.
