CORNELIUS POLICE DEPARTMENT: Duck Hunting Season

CORNELIUS POLICE DEPARTMENT: Duck Hunting Season
0Comments

Cornelius Police Department issued the following announcement on Jan. 21.

The Cornelius Police Department Lake Patrol Unit has received a few calls during this year’s Duck Hunting Season regarding hunting waterfowl on Lake Norman. With the regular season ending on January 31st, there still could be some hunting activity on Lake Norman as there are still a few special waterfowl seasons left, with all concluding by February 12th.

We would like to give a reminder that the Mecklenburg County Firearms Ordinance does allow for the use of a shotgun on the waters of Lake Norman, but requires a minimum distance of 500 feet from structures. As an additional reminder, the Town of Cornelius does have an ordinance that prohibits shooting a firearm within the town limits, so all duck hunting must take place within the waters of Lake Norman or on an island, unless specifically posted.

If you should still have questions, please contact our Lake Patrol Unit at 704-892-7773.
