County of Iredell issued the following announcement on Feb. 4.

Date/Time of Offense: Friday, February 4, 2022.

Offense(s)/Charge(s): Misdemeanor Possession of a Weapon Other Than Firearms

                                      and Explosives on School Grounds.

Location of Incident: 359 Barkley Road, Statesville.

Suspect(s): Juvenile  

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Friday, February 4, 2022, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer at Third Creek Middle School was made aware of a possible weapon on campus.

School Officials and the School Resource Officers went to a location, and located the suspect a 13 year old male. A search of the suspect’s book bag located a black in color metal pistol with the barrel painted black. Upon closer inspection of the gun it was verified to be an Air Soft gun.

The suspect was escorted to the school office. The suspect will be charged with possession of a weapons other than firearms and explosives on school grounds by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office. The school suspended the suspect for 10 days and possibly longer. The suspect was released to a parent and told not to be back on any Iredell-Statesville School Property.
