In continuing efforts to assess elevated thyroid cancer rates in the two Mooresville zip codes, the Iredell County Health Department is asking residents to complete a survey regarding cancer diagnosis within the past 10 years.
Sate Sen. Vickie Sawyer (R-Mooresville) helped to renew attention to the issue by posting about the survey on her Facebook page on July 19, encouraging her constituents to participate.
The survey is meant to supplement, and not replace, the statutory requirement for North Carolina health care providers to report each diagnosis of cancer to the North Carolina Central Cancer Registry, according to a post on the health department’s website.
Completed surveys will be forwarded to the North Carolina Central Cancer Registry, according to the website. The results will be used to evaluate if the registry’s provider-related data is accurate.
The health department has posted the survey online, but it cannot be completed electronically.
Completed surveys may be mailed, faxed, or dropped off in person at one of three locations: the main location at 318 Turnersburg Highway in Statesville, at the Environmental Health offices at Building Standards at 349 N. Center Street in Statesville, or at Government Center South at 610 East Center Avenue in Mooresville.
