The summer of 2020 was unlike any other, with the COVID-19 pandemic dashing or altering vacation plans.
Boating was one of the top activities many quarantine-weary North Carolinians engaged in.
Val Streif, head of marketing for global company GetMyBoat, said boating makes it easy for people to practice social distancing.
“So, with boating, you know, you’re just with your small group of people out on the water,” Streif told WCNC for its Aug. 30 report.
GetMyBoat has seen its bottom line increase during the past few months.
“It’s just an environment that people feel safe in during, you know, the current pandemic situation,” Streif told WCNC. “But it’s a way to still have fun and enjoy the summer sunshine, you know, in small groups or just with your family.”
Jeff Weir, the franchise owner for the Lake Norman and Lake Wylie Freedom Boat Club, told WCNC boat bookings have been filled since July. Six months ago, he did not know what to expect come summer, but it was quite shocking to see business pick up during the summer.
