Davidson Police Department issued the following announcement on Jul. 31.
During the past few weeks, the Davidson Police Department has received numerous reports of mail, specifically checks, stolen from residential mailboxes. Criminals alter the payee and amounts, resulting in issues for the victims recovering their money from banks and penalties for missed payments.
The best practice is paying bills online through a secure bank server connection, verified by your institution. However, if you prefer to mail a paper check, consider a United States Postal Service dropbox or take the payment inside the Post Office for processing. Together we can make it more difficult for criminals and avoid becoming a victim.
