Town of Huntersville issued the following announcement on Aug. 13.
The Town and architect Creech & Associates are inviting residents to share their thoughts on the design of the new town hall via new online survey. This survey follows up on last week’s public input meeting, where approximately 20 residents viewed an introductory presentation to the project and shared feedback through a series of boards with questions to solicit input in a variety of areas.
Through the online survey, project architect Creech & Associates is asking residents to share input on the same six areas critical to the design of the new building in a new online survey for residents about the new town hall building:
- Town Identity
- Indoor Civic Space
- Outdoor Civic Space
- Public Building Access
- Architectural Character
- Plaza Scale
The survey will be open online for the next four weeks.
The new town hall building is being planned for the grass pad next to Huntersville Town Center / Discovery Place Kids. The new building is anticipated to be 35,000 to 40,000 square feet and will replace the existing 8,000 square foot town hall that was built in 1997, when the town’s population was 17,519.
Anticipated features of the new town hall include a larger council chambers to accommodate upwards of at least 150 residents, community room space for activities, programs and events, expansion and further activation of the existing plaza outside Discovery Place Kids and office space to accommodate current and future staffing needs for the town.
Proceeds from previous sales of town-owned property and anticipated sale of the existing town hall are planned to offset some of the cost. The project site also saves other development costs related to stormwater and parking as those elements are already in place at the site.
