Town of Davidson issued the following announcement on Oct. 17.
The Town of Davidson invites all community members to join us on the steps of town hall, Thursday, November 11 at 11:00 a.m. to commemorate Veterans Day. The program will feature a keynote address from retired Colonel Aaron Steffens, United States Air Force.
We will gather in person, outside of town hall; however, in the event of inclement weather the program will be canceled.
Veterans Day was originally known as Armistice Day, which marked the end of World War I in 1918. The armistice that ceased the fighting was signed on the 11th day of the 11th month at 11:00 a.m. The tradition of having a ceremony on that date and at that time has endured. Armistice Day eventually evolved into Veterans Day which honors veterans of all wars.
Prior to Veterans Day, residents are invited to gather on Saturday, November 6 at 1:30 p.m. at Mimosa Cemetery on South Street to place flags on veterans' graves. Be sure to bring a face covering for the safety of our veterans and community. All are welcome to participate.
