DAVIDSON FIRE DEPARTMENT: To Conduct Training Burn

Firesafetytraining

Davidson Fire Department issued the following announcement on Nov. 10.

The Davidson Fire Department will be conducting a training burn on Saturday, November 20th in the area of Beaty Street and Shearer Street.  A tentative timeframe for the training burn is scheduled from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. During this time, residents may notice low hanging smoke in the affected area. No traffic detours are anticipated.

The training burn will be conducted by department instructors who are qualified as “Live Fire” instructors through the North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal. Davidson is fortunate to have these experienced instructors on staff as they have gone through a rigorous qualification process through the state. This qualification process includes hands on skills as well as state, local, and National Fire Protection Agency requirements and regulations.

Training in a live fire setting is beneficial for firefighters, as it provides the most realistic conditions that firefighters can encounter during an actual structure fire. Training will focus on fire ground tactics such as fire attack, ventilation, search and rescue, and incident command. Providing quality and effective training for department members is critical to ensuring that members of the department are meeting the needs of Davidson residents.

The structure to be utilized in the training burn had already been set for demolition to prepare for the construction of Beaty Park. Park construction is slated to begin this December.

For more information about the training burn, please contact Davidson Fire Department Chief Ryan Monteith at jmonteith@townofdavidson.org or Deputy Chief Joel Cherry jcherry@townofdavidson.org.
