Cornelius Police Department issued the following announcement on Dec. 5.
The Cornelius Police Department is very excited to introduce our new police badge. Much thought, discussion, and hard work went into creating a design that was modern, but yet classic and represented the community our officers serve. Our department solicited input from all sworn officers to ensure we truly had the voice of the department and the reflection of the community. The design of the badge includes a boat anchor with Eagle atop as the backbone of the badge while the center highlights the town seal. The general shape of the badge is similar to those worn by law enforcement officers during 1920’s and 1930’s. Our new badge is more than a symbol of our authority, it is a true representation of the men and women who have dedicated their lives to safety and service in our community. We believe in community policing and our new badge design was a way to exemplify how much this community means to our agency.
