Town of Mooresville issued the following announcement on Dec. 11.
The Government Finance Officers Association recently announced the Town of Mooresville has received their Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its budget.
The award represents a significant achievement by the Town. It reflects a strong commitment by staff to meet the highest principals in governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, the Town had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. The guidelines are designed to assess how well the Town’s budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device.
Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories, and in the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award from the GFOA. The Finance Department has received a Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation and the honor will be posted on the GFOA’s website.
Additionally, the Town was bestowed with the Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting (PAFR) Award by the GFOA. In order to be eligible for the PAFR award, a government must also submit its comprehensive annual financial report to GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting program and receive the Certificate for the current financial year. Each eligible report is reviewed by judges who evaluate the report, based on the following categories: reader appeal, understandability, distribution methods, creativity, and other elements.
