Town of Davidson issued the following announcement on Apr. 25.
May is designated as National Bike Month, and the Town of Davidson encourages all its community members to participate. Davidson residents and community members are invited to participate in the following:
National Bike or Walk to School Day: Wednesday, May 4
Join students all around the country by biking/walking to school on Wednesday, May 4. Between 7:45 and 8:45 a.m., Town of Davidson staff, police, and volunteers will be located at key intersections to ensure safety throughout town, including at the town green, Roosevelt Wilson Park, and the Kinkaid Trail Greenway at Avinger Lane. They’ll provide guidance for students walking/riding to Davidson K8 and Community School of Davidson (CSD).

Bike or Walk to Town Day: Saturday, May 7
Join us for Town Day from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 7 on the town green. Ride your bike and park it in the ‘Bike Corral’ near the Town of Davidson’s booth. Visit the Town of Davidson’s booth to see the E.L.F electric bike and learn about the town’s participation in the pedestrian and bicyclist safety campaign, Watch for Me NC, as well as the new Vision Zero Initiative.
Lake Norman Bike Expo: Saturday, May 14
- Community Ride: 9:00 a.m. registration, 9:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. ride (10 miles, ages 14+)
- Family Ride: 10:30 a.m. (2 miles)
- Location: Bailey Road Park, 11900 Bailey Rd. in Cornelius
Join the fun early by showing up for the Community Ride, a leisurely guided ride through Cornelius and Davidson. This 10-mile ride will start at 9:30 a.m. on Bailey Road at the recreation center (Bailey Middle School), follow the multi-use paths, wind through the quiet streets of east Cornelius, travel down the South Prong Rocky River Greenway and loop back to Bailey Road, finishing back at the start at approximately 10:30 a.m. Anyone age 14 and older is welcome though participants ages 14 – 17 must be accompanied by an adult. Police officers will assist with the ride. Helmets are required, and a bike with gears is recommended. Families with younger children wishing to ride should attend the Family Bike Ride beginning at 10:30 a.m.
National Bike to Work Week: May 16-22
Please consider riding your bike to work this week. Many employers are offering incentives, so check with your human resources department for details. We also encourage citizens to ride bikes to any destination, especially downtown and the Circles@30 for shopping, errands, etc. Please buy locally!
