Town of Davidson issued the following announcement on June 6.

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is pleased to announce the opening of the Northern Regional Recreation Center located at 18121 Old Statesville Road in Cornelius, North Carolina.

Davidson residents will see some of their own community values reflected in the goals of the center: health and wellness, conservation, and social equity. For the first time in North Mecklenburg, a facility will seek to provide numerous affordable recreation services, activities, and amenities at one location.

Early Opening for MeckPass Members

Those interested can purchase a MeckPass membership and begin using the facility on Monday, June 13, during the hours of: Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. – 8:30 p.m., Saturday 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., and Sunday 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Visit ParkandRec.com to sign up for a MeckPass.

Public Opening and Full Operating Hours

Davidson residents, as well as surrounding communities, are invited to a public ribbon-cutting and grand opening on Friday, June 24, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.  

Following the ribbon cutting, the Northern Regional Recreation Center will be open for its full operating hours as follows: 

  • Monday – Thursday: 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
  • Friday: 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Saturday: 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  • Sunday: 1:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Tours

Tours of the Northern Regional Recreation Center, during which attendees will get an in-depth look at the facility’s amenities and be able to ask questions, will be offered on June 7 starting at 9:00 a.m. and running for groups of 20 every 15 minutes. There will be a break from noon – 1:00 p.m. Tours are expected to last 30-45 minutes, and registration is required. Those interested can register for a tour here. 

Tour opportunities are as follows:

  • Tuesday, June 7 – Friday, June 10, 9:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.
  • Saturday, June 11, 9:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, June 12, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. 

Summer Camp

Summer camp opportunities are slated to begin on Tuesday, June 21. Interested families can view summer camp opportunities here.
