Town of Davidson Police Department issued the following announcement on Sept. 19.

Davidson residents are invited to join the Davidson Police Department on Tuesday, October 4 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Roosevelt Wilson Park (420 Griffith Street) to celebrate National Night Out. The event is free and open to the public. On-street parking will be available, though residents are encouraged to walk or ride their bikes!

National Night Out (NNO) is an annual crime prevention and community-building event, sponsored by the Davidson Police Department to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-resident partnerships, and neighborhood cohesiveness.

This year’s event will offer hamburgers and hot dogs, along with sides and an ice cream truck. There will be games (a football throw, basketball hoop, dunk tank, and scavenger hunt) and music performed by Mayor Rusty Knox, the Bailey Sweet River Band, Multiply Church- Lake Norman, and more.

Tents with tables and chairs will be provided so that attendees are comfortable and have plenty of seating. The Davidson Police Department will distribute information and items from the Watch for Me NC initiative to educate residents about pedestrian safety.

“Come join us as we celebrate another annual National Night Out event,” said Davidson Police Chief Penny Dunn.  “The local NNO event was started in 2006 at the request of and with the support of the Davidson African-American Coalition.  The vision of this organization was for all residents to come together, break bread, and find common ground.  Our community is stronger and better for their efforts all those years ago.”

The Davidson Police Department is looking forward to working with many event sponsors as well as many resident volunteers who help to plan this annual event. For those interested in volunteering on October 4, please use the Sign-Up Genius link found HERE.

A variety of community groups will be present also: the Davidson Public Library, the Ada Jenkins Center, U.S. Coast Guard, local Cub Scouts, and more!
