TOWN OF MOORESVILLE: Police Make Arrest Following Drug Investigation

Town of Mooresville issued the following announcement on Feb. 4.

On February 3, the Mooresville Police Department’s Narcotics Division executed a search warrant at a Cabarrus Avenue residence after an investigation into complaints of illegal drug activity. During the investigation, detectives learned that, in addition to selling illegal drugs near Mooresville High School, the suspect was also frequently in possession of firearms while being a convicted felon. 

As a result of the search warrant, detectives seized one pound of marijuana, 30 grams of cocaine, 74 dosages of MDMA (ecstasy), a sawed-off shotgun and a handgun inside the residence. Gordon Cortel Serrano, 422 Cabarrus Avenue, was charged with the following felonies: 

  • Trafficking in Cocaine;
  • Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver a Controlled Substance (Marijuana) Within 1,000 Feet of a Park; 
  • Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver a Controlled Substance (Cocaine) Within 1,000 Feet of a Park; 
  • Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver a Controlled Substance (MDMA) Within 1,000 Feet of a Park; 
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon; and 
  • Possession of a Weapon of Mass Destruction.

Serrano was also charged with a misdemeanor, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and was placed in the Iredell County Detention Center under a $280,000 secured bond.
