Sen. Vickie Sawyer (R-34) attended and spoke at the promotion event of Statesville's first female captain.

In a recent Facebook post, Sawyer said that it was an honor to be invited to be the keynote speaker for the recent Statesville Police Department's promotion ceremony. The event took place on Feb. 19.

There were 11 individuals promoted. Captain T. Huffman, Sergeant J. Galliher, Sergeant G. Deal, Sergeant C. Wolfe, Corporal T. Horne, Corporal A. Wilkes and Corporal T. Gomez were all promoted within their ranks. Additionally, A. Bell was promoted to IT Specialist, R. Lindsey to Property Evidence Custodian and Margarita Marquez as Police Evidence Technician.

Sawyer was very pleased to be involved with congratulating and welcoming the Statesville's first female captain to the position — a massive step in gender equality for the position and Statesville Police Department, she said.

Sawyer represents the Iredell and Yadkin counties in the North Carolina State Senate.
