YMCA gyms in the Charlotte area are starting to reopen after being closed for months because of COVID-19 and related safety regulations.
The Brace Family, Dowd, Harris, Keith Family, Lake Norman, Lowe's, McCrorey, Morrison and Stratford Richardson YMCAs will be officially opening, WCNC reported on Sept. 6.
"We are super excited. It's almost been six months of waiting," Laura Smith, with YMCA, told WCNC. "Can you believe it's been six months ago that we closed our doors?"
YMCAs will make changes to promote the health and safety of gymgoers and staff, starting with temperature checks and a coronavirus questionnaire, WCNC reported. Everyone will also receive a bottle to clean equipment before and after their use. The YMCA will also operate at a 30% capacity.
Masks will also be required when a person isn't actively working out to ensure the safety of customers.
"I'm really excited just to get back inside," Brenda Bowles, who has a membership, told WCNC. "It's just really hard to do it on your own even if you work out all the time, especially through the summer months."
