Nurses at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center have been honored with the DAISY Foundation Award. Stacy McDonald, a surgical services nurse, and Yang Hancock from the critical care unit received the award for the fourth quarter of 2024. The DAISY Foundation aims to recognize extraordinary nurses.
Tammy Moore, network chief nursing officer, presented the awards to McDonald and Hancock in a ceremony attended by department members and hospital leadership. Each recipient received a certificate, a hand-carved Healer’s Touch sculpture from Zimbabwe, a gift bag, daisies, and treats for their team.
Sherry Jeffries, director of surgical services, praised McDonald in her nomination: "Stacy is a true team player... She relieves the anxiety of her team and her patients most every day."
A patient nominated Hancock stating: "Yang was my nurse... Her warmth, professionalism, and kindness turned a stressful situation into one where I felt supported every step of the way."
The DAISY Foundation was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died from Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP) in 1999. The foundation recognizes nurses who make significant impacts on patients' lives.
The foundation also supports immune system disease research through grants and assists ITP support groups. More information can be found on their website.
DAISY Award honorees at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center exemplify excellence through clinical expertise and compassionate care. They are seen as role models within the nursing community. Patients and colleagues can nominate nurses for this award online.
